Lake of the Woods Trip

Jason shares details about a trip to Lake of the Woods where a group of family and friends get together each March for a fishing trip.

The trip involved multiple shelters, snowmobiles, and a lot of gear. The group ran into a large pressure ridge that forced them to backtrack several miles, showing just how unpredictable ice conditions can be on big water.

Despite the challenges, the trip still produced walleyes and bonus perch, making for another memorable outing on one of Minnesota’s most well-known fisheries.

Fishing Techniques

The conversation also covered some of the presentations that worked during the trip.

Glow spoons and buckshot-style lures produced fish, and anglers discussed different approaches to keeping lures near the bottom versus fishing slightly higher in the water column.

Like most ice fishing trips, patience and experimentation with different depths and presentations helped dial in the bite.
